A TIME TO RETREAT

We’ve looked at so far in my previous blog post one (1) of 6 things I had to do for myself to move beyond being a victim, to a survivor, to a thriver from the traumatic experience of domestic violence. In this blog post, I will discuss the second thing, I had to do in my life as apart of my blog “A Time To …” blog series.

  1. Time
  2. Retreat
  3. Pray
  4. Heal
  5. Forgive
  6. Love

During the weekend of January 4, 5, and 6, 2020, my only daughter and I attended our church’s 2020 Women’s Prayer Retreat located in Point Clear, Alabama to pray, meditate, fellowship, ask God direction for the New Year (2020) relative to our faith, family, and finances. This particular retreat vacation was very special to me because it was the first time my daughter was old enough to attend a women retreat. The place in Point Clear, Alabama where the retreat was held is “The Grand Hotel Golf Resort and Spa, Autograph Collection”. What impressed me the most about the retreat? I was able to focus on my prayer life, continue to build my relationship with God, spend quality mother and daughter time with my only daughter, fellowship with other believers in Jesus Christ, and have some time alone just being still.

The Grand Hotel Golf Retreat and Spa, Autograph Collection in Point Clear, Alabama is conductive for retreating. I know. I know. You are saying to yourself. What is a retreat? Why should victims of domestic violence and survivors of domestic violence retreat? Well here are the answers.

WHAT DOES RETREAT MEAN?

Retreat – the word retreat is defined in Websters New Dictionary of the English Language as act of withdrawing, place of privacy or safety or meditation and study; make a retreat.

WHY SHOULD VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RETREAT?

Victims and survivors of domestic violence should attend a retreat or retreat by themselves for the following reasons:

  1. privacy (practice self care)
  2. safety
  3. pray/mediate
  4. read, study
  5. relax
  6. exercise

At my church’s women ministry prayer retreat, the activities that were available to all the attendees were as follows: church services, quiet time alone in your hotel room to relax, to pray and meditate, bike riding, swimming, shopping at a nearby outlet mall, spa services, and gym facilities to exercise.
